Beijing 2008 Olympic Games – Athletics Hightlights
The Track & Field programme at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was defined by a high concentration or record-breaking performances across sprint, distance and field events. A total of multiple word and numerous Olympic records were achieved, reflecting peak competitive conditions and exceptionl athlete performance levels.
In the sprint events, Usain Bolt set two world records, clocking 9.69 in the 100 meters and 19.30 in the 200 meters. In distance running, Kenenisa Bekele secured gold medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m, establishing an Olympic record in the latter. Additional Olympic records were recorded in events such the men’s 4X400 relay, Marathon, Race Walking and multiple field event, including pole vault and javelin throw.
