Greek Clubs Championships 2026
The 2026 Greek Clubs Championships officially open the domestic outdoor season bringing together athletes from across the country in twelve regional groups. The competition serves as an early-season test for many of Greece’s leading track and field athletes ahead of the major and international meetings of the summer.
Greek Clubs Championships 2026 – Highlights
Group 1: East Macedonia – Thrace, Serres (Kaftatzoglio Stadium)
- Fast sprint performances highlighted the action in the Serres group of the Greek Clubs Championships, where Sofia Iosifidou produced an early-season double. The national high hurdles specialist won the 100m hurdles in 13.43 (-1.3) before equalling her personal best of 11.89 (+0.5) in the 100 metres later in the programme.
- Konstantinos Gennikis followed his 19.30m performance in the Czech Republic with another strong shot put result of 19.10m less than 24 hours later, while Ioanna Arampatzi opened her season in the discus with 54.60m, just one centimetre below her personal best. Georgios Matzaridis also won the 1,500 metres in 3:55.83.
Group 1: East Macedonia – Thrace, Serres, 2nd day highlights
- Dimitris Pavlidis produced the standout performance not only of his group, but of the entire second day of the Greek Clubs Championships, throwing the discus 64.31m. The 23-year-old recorded the third-best performance of his career and moved closer to the qualifying standard of 65.50m for the European Athletics Championships. Pavlidis produced four throws beyond 62 metres during an impressive series that confirmed his strong early-season condition.
- In the hammer throw, Apostolos Tzamtzis continued his excellent comeback season after overcoming last year’s injury problems. The young thrower improved his personal best to 70.51m, surpassing the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships for the third time this season.
Group 2: Thessaloniki (Kaftatzoglio Stadium)
- Elina Tzengo used the Greek Clubs Championships in Thessaloniki as part of her preparation for the upcoming Diamond League meeting in Xiamen, competing in a limited series of three throws. The European javelin champion recorded 51.29m in her final attempt before ending her competition, focusing primarily on supporting her club early in the season.
- In the pole vault, Giannis Rizos cleared 5.40m before making ambitious attempts at 5.65m, signalling positive early-season form ahead of stronger international competitions later this month. Georgios Papanastasiou followed with 5.20m, while Antonis Merlos won the high jump with 2.15m in a controlled competition effort.
Group 2: Thessaloniki, 2nd day highlights
- Vasiliki Chaiditou returned to competition for the first time since August 2025 and immediately produced a strong performance in the long jump with 6.45m (+2.1). In the same event, Andriana Gkoka followed closely with 6.38m (+0.4), continuing her positive early-season form.
- Hammer thrower Giannis Korakidis won with 74.33m, while Petros Papagiannis delivered one of the best performances of his career, winning the 400m hurdles in 51.19 before later returning to victory in the 200 metres with 21.57 (-1.0).
- In the women’s sprints, Dimitra Tsoukala secured victory in the 200 metres with 23.93 (-1.7).
- Nineteen-year-old Katerina Giannoulidou achieved the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships after improving her personal best to 60.41, while Christoforos Koutlis controlled the men’s 800 metres in 1:51.26.
Group 3: Ioannina (National Stadium Zosimades)
- The younger generation produced several notable performances in the Ioannina group of the Greek Clubs Championships. Seventeen-year-old Nikos Saliveros finished second in the men’s 100 metres with 10.87, just behind Orestis Haidas, while K18 hurdler Eleni Tsiangou continued her strong season with a personal best of 14.46 in the 100m hurdles, moving closer to the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships.
- Grigoris Raptis won both the triple jump with 15.00m and the long jump with 7.12m. In the women’s events, Ioanna Tsigka won the 100 metres in 12.30, while Sofia Tsarsitalidou cleared 6.12m in the long jump, moving within ten centimetres of the World U20 Championships qualifying mark.
Group 3: Ioannina, 2nd day highlights
- The younger generation once again stood out in the Ioannina group of the Greek Clubs Championships. Ioanna Tsigka followed her victory in the 100 metres with another strong performance in the 200 metres, winning in 25.09 (-0.8). The 17-year-old moved within one tenth of the qualifying standard for the European U18 Championships after already securing the standard in the 100m earlier this season.
- In the men’s 200 metres, Nikos Saliveros claimed victory in 21.86 (-1.0), narrowly missing his personal best of 21.82. Fellow 400m specialist Alexandros Koutsoupas followed closely with 21.87, while Petros Saliveros finished third in 22.27. Seventeen-year-old Eleni Gogou continued her progress in the 400m hurdles, improving her personal best to 63.84.
Group 4: Thessalia, Trikala (Municipal Stadium of Trikala)
- Nikolaos Kapsouras was the winner of the men’s 100 metres in the Trikala group of the Greek Clubs Championships, clocking 10.82. In the women’s sprint event, Despoina Kafkoula took victory in 12.25 (+0.5).
- Panagiotis Saltis won the 10,000m race walk in 45:23.89, while Vangelis Kaikis recorded 47.02 to take first place in the men’s 400 metres.
Group 4: Thessalia, 2nd day highlights
- Vasiliki Mitsiouli returned to the 400m hurdles for the first time in recent seasons and claimed victory in 59.64, producing one of the notable performances of the second day in Trikala. In the men’s 800 metres, 16-year-olds Fotis-Gerasimos Benis and Vasilis Gouigouis delivered impressive performances, clocking 1:53.09 and 1:53.39 respectively. Both athletes improved on the qualifying standard for the European U18 Championships after a series of strong races earlier in the season.
Group 5: Patra (Pampeloponisiako Stadium)
- Spyros Konidaris was among the standout athletes in the Patras group of the Greek Clubs Championships, clocking 48.60 in the 400 metres to open his first season in the U20 category on a positive note. The 18-year-old now targets the qualifying standard of 47.40 for the World Athletics U20 Championships later this season.
- In the women’s hammer throw, 17-year-old Konstantina Kartsona continued her strong early-season form with 54.14m using the senior women’s implement. Ioanna Peteinari followed with 52.29m, completing a strong competition for the younger throwers.
Group 5: Patra, 2nd day highlights
- Vasiliki Kantere secured victory in the women’s 200 metres with 25.46 (-0.6) during the second day of competition in Patras. U20 quarter-miler Spyros Konidaris continued his strong opening to the outdoor season by improving his personal best in the 200 metres to 21.89, while Gkersi Souleimani followed closely with 22.03.
Group 6: Attiki, Athens (EAKN Agios Kosmas)
- Sotiris Gentekos delivered one of the standout performances of the weekend in the Athens group of the Greek Clubs Championships, winning the U20 hammer throw with 75.01m. The 19-year-old achieved a new personal best, the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships and the world-leading performance in his category this season.
- Ariadni Adamopoulou opened her outdoor season with 4.30m in the pole vault, while Rafaela Spanoudaki returned to competition with a controlled 11.90 victory in the 100 metres. In the women’s 400 metres, Anastasia Rapti won in 54.83 ahead of Ioulianna Roussou, who achieved a personal best of 54.94.
- Seventeen-year-old Danae Bakogianni continued her strong season in the sprint hurdles with 14.57 despite a headwind of -2.4, as she continues to target the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships. In the triple jump, Spiridoula Karydi recorded 13.73m with excessive wind assistance (+5.4) during her return to competition.
Group 6: Attiki, 2nd Day Highlights
- Rafaela Spanoudaki-Hatziriga added a second controlled sprint performance to her opening weekend of the outdoor season, winning the 200 metres in 24.11 (-1.7). Seventeen-year-old Maria-Angelina Kokosi continued her consistent early-season form with 25.05, while fellow U18 athletes Eleni Soldatou and Zacharoula-Leda Matzafou also produced promising performances.
- Chrysoula Anagnostopoulou opened her outdoor season in the discus throw with 56.10m, while Maria Maggoulia, competing out of competition, recorded 16.02m in the shot put.
- After her victory in the triple jump on Saturday, Spyridoula Karydi returned on the second day to win the long jump with 6.25m, producing two additional jumps beyond six metres during the competition. Evangelia Pavlakaki followed with 6.01m, surpassing the qualifying standard for the European U18 Championships.
- In the triple jump, Nikolaos Andrikopoulos secured victory with 15.80m (+2.3), while Giannis Gkartsios, competing out of competition, produced 15.58m (+1.4). U20 middle-distance athletes also stood out during the second day. Rafaela Bento improved her personal best in the 800 metres to 2:09.49, moving closer to the qualifying standard for the World Athletics U20 Championships, while Aris Katselis recorded a personal best of 1:52.59 in the men’s race.
Group 7: Piraeus (EAKN Agios Kosmas)
- Antonis Katsantonis was the standout performer of the opening day in Group 7 of the Greek Clubs Championships, winning the 100 metres in 10.33 (+1.0). The Cypriot U20 athlete set a new Cyprus U20 national record and moved to third place on the 2026 European U20 rankings. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos finished second in 10.68, ahead of Giannis Daras with 10.89. Sotiris Garagkanis opted for a controlled early-season race, placing fourth in 10.98.
Group 7: Piraeus, 2nd day highlights
- Eleni Iakovaki continued her impressive early-season form by improving her personal best in the 200 metres to 24.21 (-1.3). The talented U18 athlete already holds the qualifying standards for the European U18 Championships in the 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles, while she has also secured the World Athletics U20 Championships standards in both the 400m and 400m hurdles. Hammer thrower Alexandra Tsernova opened her season with high expectations after producing 62.98m, moving close to her personal best of 63.63m recorded earlier this year. In the men’s 200 metres, Sotiris Garagkanis claimed victory in 21.19 (-1.2) ahead of Petros Kechiopoulos, who followed with 21.73
Group 8: Crete (Pancretion Stadium)
- Christos Frantzeskakis produced the best performance of his career in the hammer throw during the Greek Clubs Championships, improving his personal best to 79.09m and achieving the qualifying standard for the European Athletics Championships. The 26-year-old moved to third place on the Greek all-time list and climbed among the top European performers of the 2026 season. Frantzeskakis surpassed his previous best of 78.20m from 2022 and now trails only Alexandros Papadimitriou (80.45m) and Christos Polychroniou (80.08m) on the national all-time rankings. Competing in strong early-season form, he also strengthened his position for qualification to the Ultimate Championship later this year in Budapest.
Group 8: Crete, 2nd day highlights
- Strong performances continued during the second day of competition in Crete, where Dimitra Gnafaki was among the standout athletes of the meeting. The experienced hurdler recorded 57.95 in the 400m hurdles despite competing without significant opposition, producing one of the fastest performances of the weekend.
- In the same race, 17-year-old Maria Konstantaki finished second in 62.93, moving close to the qualifying standard for the European U18 Championships.
- Maria Stefanopoulou produced a solid series in the women’s long jump with a best mark of 6.22m, while Emmanouil Sarris won the men’s 200 metres in 21.86.
- U18 athlete Sofoklis Chaidemenakis impressed in the 400m hurdles, winning in 54.61 and improving beyond the qualifying standard for the European U18 Championships.
