Los Angeles 1932 Olympic Games

The Los Angeles 1932 Olympic Games athletics programme featured 29 events with 386 competitors representing 34 nations and included the Olympic debut of the men’s 50km Race Walk. Women’s athletics continued its expansion with the introduction of the Javelin Throw and the 80m Hurdles.

American athletes dominated many of the sprint events, while competitors from Europe, North America and Asia contributed to one of the most internationally diverse athletics competitions of the pre-war era. The Los Angeles Games demonstrated the resilience of international sport during a period of global economic hardship and served as the final Olympic athletics meeting before the politically significant Berlin 1936 Olympic Games.
